About Shakira

Born and raised in Barranquilla, Colombia, Shakira's innate talent was evident at an early age. Signed by Sony Music Colombia at 13, she embarked on a career that would help redefine Latin music. With the release of her debut album, Magia, in 1991, Shakira showed the world a unique fusion of rock, soul, and pop, laying the groundwork for unprecedented cross-cultural success. But first, she had to finish high school.

In 1995, she was ready to drop her follow-up. Pies Descalzos catapulted her to fame in the Spanish-speaking world, but it would be another few years before she crossed over into the English-speaking market with Laundry Service. Hits like "Whenever, Wherever" and "Hips Don't Lie" dominated charts and became global sensations, transcending linguistic and cultural barriers.

Shakira has been recognized with Grammy and Latin Grammy Awards, but her legacy has not only been built in the studio and on stage. Her impact extends to philanthropy, with her Barefoot Foundation providing educational opportunities to underprivileged children in Colombia. As she continues to dance to the beat of her own drum, she will undoubtedly remain a musical inspiration and cultural influence.
