Nassau Coliseum 1255 Hempstead Turnpike Uniondale, New York 11553 Capacity: 18,000
Built on a former U.S. Army/Air Force base, Nassau Coliseum, also known as Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, opened in 1972 and cost approximately $32 million to construct. It is home to the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the New York Dragons of the Arena Football League (AFL) as well as concerts, boxing and other special events. It was also the home arena of the New York Nets of the old American Basketball Association (ABA) before they moved to the NBA and to New Jersey.
The Islanders enjoyed an incredible run in the early 1980s at the Nassau Coliseum as they won four consecutive Stanley Cups from 1980 to 1983 with stars like Mike Bossy, Denis Potvin and Billy Smith. After a long dry spell, the team has improved in recent years and should be a contender when the NHL returns to the ice.
