Seating in Roberts Stadium, home of the University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles, is still hallowed as the proving ground of Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers. Who would have thought at the time that they were witnessing a future NFL Hall of Fame player from the seats of Roberts Stadium. But it was almost inevitable something great would come out of Roberts Stadium. Obviously, when a football program grows so does its stadium and its attraction to talented players.
The Growth of the Roberts Stadium seating chart
Roberts Stadium originally seated only 4,000 fans in 1932. In 1938 additional construction included concrete stands, and spawned the nickname ‘The Rock”. By the time 1950 rolled around ‘The Rock” was in full expansion mode adding over 9,000 seats for the growing crowds. Two decades later, Roberts Stadium was completely rebuilt, increasing its seating chart to hold over 30,000 and at this time plans are being made to increase capacity even more.
But as the stadium has grown the past has not been forgotten. Fans still talk about the amazing feats of Favre when he played for the Golden Eagles and hopes are high for a strong and growing program. In the meantime, University of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles tickets continue to sell out and on Saturdays in the fall the seats of Roberts Stadium are packed to capacity.
