Take a deep breath, and from the seats of the Merrill Auditorium, we’ll explore the Kotzschmar Organ. No, the Kotzschmar Organ isn’t located just above the pancreas. The Kotzschmar Organ, found in the Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine, is one of the world’s most wonderful and unique musical instruments. A fully working organ featuring 6,682 pipes, it is a stunning musical and mechanical achievement.
Donated to the City of Portland in 1912, and still drawing crowds to the seats of Merrill auditorium, the Kotzschmar Organ has recently undergone a complete restoration and sound as good as the day it was installed. But when should you reserve your seats in the Merrill Auditorium?
Try booking tickets for one of the silent film festivals held every year. There’s one on Valentine’s Day, one on Halloween, a very, very popular Christmas show, another on Bach’s birthday, and an enjoyable spring booking. Can you imagine returning to your grandfathers youth and enjoying silent movies with a fabulous instrument like the Kotzschmar Organ? We can.
In addition to The Organ, there are a number of other reasons to keep your eye on Merrill Auditorium. Performances by the Portland Symphony Orchestra, Broadway Productions, (ex-Pirates of Penzance, Alice in Wonderland, Madame Butterfly), along with more contemporary artists, fill the bill (and the seats) at Merrill Auditorium.
