The Hilton Coliseum is home to the Iowa State University Cyclones Basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, and volleyball teams. The 14,800 seat multi-purpose arena in Ames Iowa is considered to be one of the loudest home courts in the nation. If the Cyclones are playing at home make it a point to attend. It is an atmosphere that simply can’t be described or seen anywhere else. Decibels reach levels that seem to rock the foundation the arena was built on! Once you’ve been in the seats of the Hilton Coliseum and experienced the explosion, you’ll want to come back again and again.
But The Hilton Coliseum isn’t only about the Cyclones. It also acts as a magnet for concerts and live performances, and other sporting events. On February 27, 1985, the legendary National Crisis Action Rally was held in the Hilton Coliseum . The arena also hosted the 1972 NCAA basketball tournament Midwest Regional, as well as the 1982, 1988 and 1993 NCAA wrestling championships. While the preponderance of action revolves around The Iowa State athletics, there are a number of other events to attend year round at The Hilton Coliseum. But remember, if you are in Ames Iowa and feel the ground tremble, it probably is not an earthquake. It is just something big going on at the Hilton Coliseum.
