Anything less than a Stanley Cup Title is a disappointment for the fans of the Detroit Red Wings. And although the Wings were not able to capture the sport’s ultimate prize they did have a very memorable season. They finished 3rd in their division and 7th overall in the Eastern Conference but made a nice run in the ‘13 NHL Playoffs. Last season will also be one to remember for Wings fans because it was the final season for future Hall of Famer Nicklas Lidstrom. It will be hard for Red Wings fans to say goodbye to this tremendous player who spent all 20 years of his career in the Motor City.

Even though the Red Wings only made it to the playoffs by a single point, they really turned things on when the playoffs rolled around. Experts didn’t think the Red Wings had a chance when matched up with the 2-seeded Anaheim Ducks but they were able to defeat the West’s second best team of the regular season in seven games. Then the Red Wings went on to face the best of the West, the Chicago Blackhawks, who had been arguably the most dominant team in the NHL all year. The Red Wings were able to take the series to a decisive Game 7 but couldn’t pull off back-to-back upsets. Red Wings fans should be very proud of the way that their team battled throughout the regular and post season and can have a lot to build off of for next year.
