The Music City Bowl is a growing Nashville tradition. Held in this Tennessee city since ‘98, the Music City Bowl has become known for two things: close games and upsets. More than half of the Music City Bowl outcomes have the champions winning by a margin of a touchdown or less. The favorites in this game have learned to watch their back, too. In ‘06, the Kentucky Wildcats football team entered the game as major underdogs to the Clemson Tigers, only to knock them off, 28-20. Quarterback Andre Woodson was given MVP honors after the game, which he apparently enjoyed so much he came back and won MVP of the Music City Bowl the next year when the Wildcats defeated Florida State. You can see all the action this year with Music City Bowl tickets.

The first year the Music City Bowl was held, Vanderbilt Stadium hosted the event. Every year since then it has been hosted at what is now called LP Field, a 69,143 seat stadium situated on the banks of the Cumberland River in downtown Nashville. It is also the home of the Tennessee Titans. Despite playing their home games in the same vicinity, Vanderbilt has only appeared in one Music City Bowl (‘08). They didn’t disappoint their hometown crowd though. In a hard fought defensive struggle, the Commodores downed the Boston College Eagles, 16-14. Now here’s something you won’t see every day; Vanderbilt’s punter, Brett Upson, was named MVP of the game! The SEC had a good showing again in ‘12 when Vanderbilt defeated North Carolina State, 38-24, but the conference hasn’t always shined in this game. Their overall record as a conference in the Music City Bowl is 5-8. The Big East on the other hand, has gone 4-0. See who wins this season with Music City Bowl game tickets from GoTickets.

Franklin American Mortgage has been the title sponsor for the Music City bowl since ‘10, and it is always played in December. Under its current format, the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl is an SEC- ACC showdown. Past MVPs include CJ Spiller (Clemson), Jason Campbell (Auburn), and Marion Barber (Minnesota).
