In the storied history of the Gator Bowl, more than half the games showcased a pair of ranked opponents. In fact, only five times has there been a match-up absent of a top 25 team. The unranked Mississippi State Bulldogs faced off against the Northwestern Wildcats at EverBank Field in Jacksonville. The Wildcats took care of the Bulldogs relatively easy defeating them 34-20. Northwestern safety Jared Carpenter took home the game’s MVP award.
