First it was the Continental Tire Bowl. Then it was the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Now it’s simply the Belk Bowl, but is still held in Charlotte, North Carolina. This college football bowl was started in ‘02, making it one of the newer bowl games on the college football schedule. Its current agreement is for the fifth selection ACC team to play the third selection Big East team. In its young tradition, the Belk Bowl is always held in December. Make sure you are there this year with Belk Bowl tickets from GoTickets.

The Belk Bowl has been played at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte since the beginning in ‘02. Bank of America Stadium — known by fans as “the Vault” — is also the home of the Carolina Panthers of the NFL, and has a capacity of 73,778. It’s a big venue for a non-BCS bowl, but it certainly wasn’t too big a stage for the University of Virginia football squad in ‘02 and ‘03. The Virginia Cavaliers won the inaugural bowl, beating the West Virginia Mountaineers 48-22. They followed that up by winning the same bowl the next year, knocking off the Pittsburgh Panthers 23-16. The Cavaliers haven’t been back to this bowl since but they will be among many teams this season fighting for a spot. There’s no need to fight for your Belk Bowl game tickets when you can get them in a snap at GoTickets.

Last year’s ACC-Big East showdown proved yet another great game for the Belk Bowl as Cincinnati took down the Duke Blue Devils 48-34. Duke jumped out to an early 16-3 lead after one quarter of play but ultimately could not stop the offensive attack of the Bearcats. Cincy quarterback Brendon Kay was named the game’s most valuable player, setting a Belk Bowl record with four touchdowns. Past MVP winners include Matt Schaub (UVA) now with the Houston Texans, and college standout Pat White (West Virginia). White is the only quarterback in college football history to start and win four college bowl games, and he holds the record for most career rushing yards by a quarterback.
