For a few weeks last season it really looked like the Duke Blue Devils were going to put together a solid season as they five of their first six games including Ws over Wake Forest and UNC. It marked the first time that the Blue Devils had defeated the Tar Heels on the gridiron in over a decade. Unfortunately Duke had a very difficult time keeping it together in the second half of the season. They faced top ten teams in back-to-back weeks losing badly to both. First on the road against Florida State by a score of 48-7 and then against Clemson at home, falling 56-20. Despite a tough stretch, the Blue Devils did become bowl eligible. They received a bid to the Belk Bowl and played the Cincinnati Bearcats. It was the team’s first bowl appearance since 1995.

The Duke Blue Devils football schedule features some very interesting match-ups. The Devils open up against NC Central at Wallace Wade then head to Memphis to take on the Tigers at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Then Duke returns home for four straight home games against Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, Troy, and Navy. Then the ACC schedule kicks into high gear with road games against Virginia and Virginia Tech before returning home to face NC State and Miami. The final game of the season is against Duke’s biggest rival, UNC at Kenan Memorial Stadium.

Even hard core Duke football fans might not know that Wallace Wade Stadium actually hosted the Rose Bowl way back in ’42 (due to travel restrictions leading up to World War II), and while that’s not likely to ever happen again, it does give you a look at the unique history of this stadium. Originally opened in ’29, Wallace Wade Stadium has a capacity of only 33,941, which means it can be tough to find good Duke football tickets for big games. That’s why so many fans get their Duke Blue Devils tickets from GoTickets, where you can find college football tickets to every game, even if they are sold out.
