Australian Pink Floyd Show
The Australian Pink Floyd Show is probably the world’s best and most successful tribute to date. The name says it all. This is a tribute band for Pink Floyd from Adelaide, South Australia. The band came together in 1988 and consisted of Lee Smith, Grant Ross, Jason Sawford, Steve Mac, and Colin Wilson. The band has amended members throughout the last 20 years, and in 2002 they began hiring more musicians to fulfill their demanding world wide tour schedule.
In 1994 true Pink Floyd member David Gilmour attended an Australian Pink Floyd Show performance at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon. He was so impressed that he invited the band to attend an end-of-tour after party for the Division Bell tour. Australian Pink Floyd Show also performed at Gilmour’s 50th birthday celebration. They are the only tribute band to have played for any Pink Floyd member. They are also the only tribute band to have played at the Royal Albert Hall, let alone sell it out on their second visit. It is rumored that Roger Waters attended the second performance.
This band has toured all over the world. In 2004 they gave a major tour in the US, Canada, Germany, and Italy. They also recorded a 2-disc DVD live concert event of ‘Dark Side of the Moon.’ 2005 saw them record a live CD of ‘Animals’ and ‘Wish You Were Here’ as they toured South America including Mexico, Buenos Aires, and Brazil.
During their 2007 touring season, they stopped at several major European music festivals that included Sweden Rock Festival, Malta Jazz Festival, and Arrow Rock Festival. They made another DVD of their 2007 concert at Royal Albert Hall. In the fall of 2007, they started their longest tour ever of the Americas stopping for the first time in Panama, Venezuela, and Chile.
2008 was a super busy year as they have been on the ‘Best of the Wall’ tour. They spent five weeks in Spain, Luxembourg, Poland, Norway and the Czech Republic. Later they gave a concert in Roana, Israel. They made stops at the Isle of Wight Festival, Gullfest, and Lokerese Festeen in Belgium.
