Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania’s Kirby Center is the city’s lone surviving 1920’s-boom movie house. Thanks to modernization and multi-screen cinemas opening outside of the city, the Wilkes-Barre movie houses had to close their doors, and at one point, so did the Paramount Theater. But with the help of philanthropic efforts by local citizens, the seemingly imminent wrecking ball to the side of the Paramount was stopped, and replaced by artisans. Thanks to the contributions of Fred M. Kirby II and others, the Paramount Theater was saved and renamed to honor the memory of Mr. Kirby’s father. Of course, a large, single-screen theater-house in today’s economy is still not a feasible business enterprise, so the Kirby was converted into a cultural arts center featuring performances by some of the country’s best entertainers and performers. Some of the great performers to take the stage at the Kirby include Bryan Adams, Tori Amos, the Backstreet Boys, Tracy Chapman, Bill Cosby, and Charlie Daniels to name a few. Today, Kirby Center tickets can mean anything from Broadway show tickets, to George Carlin tickets or Bob Dylan tickets. Find these great tickets and more at GoTickets.com, the internet’s best source for popular and hard-to-find concert tickets, sports tickets, theater tickets, and ticket packages.
