Pittsburgh is a shot-and-a-beer kind of town, so you would think the hardnosed Steelers would have been given the honor of opening Heinz Field.

You’d be wrong. When the gates swung open for the first time in August 2001 it wasn’t Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward and company waiting inside but the boy band ‘N Sync. The Steelers didn’t get to play their first game until a week later. For many Pittsburghers, the scheduling was an affront to the city’s gritty character. They’re only now getting over it.

Heinz Field takes maximum advantage of Pittsburgh’s dramatic topography, giving spectators an eyeful of scenery to gaze upon when the Steelers are winning big. Its open end zone looks out over the confluence of the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio rivers, a stone’s throw from where the aptly named Three Rivers Stadium once stood. Beyond that are Point State Park with its famous fountain and Mount Washington, which towers over the southern shore of the “Mon.” For a better look at this postcard view, purchase your Heinz Field tickets at Gotickets.

Striking though the scenery may be, hardcore Steelers fans rarely take their eyes off the team. Pittsburgh has been one of the National Football League’s most successful regular-season teams in recent years. As a result, Heinz Field has played host to two AFC championship games in its first four years of existence, with the Steelers falling to New England both times.

This year’s Steelers appear poised to contend for the Super Bowl yet again. They boast talented quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, a revelation in his rookie season, as well as a tough defense. Heinz Field will play host to some of the most exciting games of the NFL season. The Patriots visit Sept. 25 for a much-anticipated rematch of last season’s AFC title game, and there are games against Jacksonville (Oct. 16), Baltimore (Oct. 31) and traditional rival Cleveland (Nov. 13). Gotickets is your source for Pittsburgh Steelers tickets, New England Patriots tickets, Jacksonville Jaguars, Baltimore Ravens tickets and Cleveland Browns tickets.

Heinz Field is also home to the Pitt Panthers of the Big East Conference. Pitt is under new management this fall, with former Miami Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt, a Pitt alumnus, having replaced Walt Harris. You can see the start of Pitt’s new era by purchasing your Pitt Panthers tickets and other college football tickets at Gotickets.

Among the things you won’t find in Heinz Field are concerts. Not many, at any rate. The ‘N Sync experience was so traumatic for Pittsburgh that the venue rarely plays host to anything other than football games. It doesn’t help that the turf in Heinz Field has proven surprisingly fragile, unable to bear more than the usual wear and tear. But the NFL and college football action keep Heinz Field rocking. For your Pittsburgh Steelers tickets, Pitt Panthers tickets, NFL tickets, college football tickets and concert tickets turn to Gotickets. If you’re feeling optimistic, you might even want to look into Super Bowl tickets. The Steelers are that good.
