Events at Autzen Stadium
Autzen Stadium in Eugene, OR, is home to the Oregon Ducks football team. The stadium is located about a quarter of a mile north of the University of Oregon campus across the Willamette River. The stadium is one of the few NCAA stadiums oriented in the East-West direction, as most stadiums are oriented North-South.
The stadium is named after Thomas J. Autzen, whose foundation gave the university $250,000 for the construction. The first game was held on September 23, 1967, when the Ducks lost to Colorado. The Ducks only celebrated one win in the Autzen stadium that season against Idaho on October 21, 1967. The Ducks played the first two years on a real field before artificial turf was installed in 1969, and today the Ducks play their games on FieldTurf.
In 2002 Autzen Stadium underwent a $90 million renovation that added 12,000 seats, 32 sky-boxes, a three-story luxury suite and improved concessions. Since the expansion, the Ducks have sold out every football game, and haven’t had an attendance of fewer than 55,000.
Autzen Stadium is ranked among the nation’s top 10 places to see a football game. An all-time attendance record was set at the stadium on September 16, 2006, when 59,269 people came to see Oregon defeat Oklahoma 18-15. If you’re looking for an exciting venue to watch excellent college football, Autzen Stadium is the place to go.
