The 499-seat Variety Arts Theatre, originally built in 1911, is one of New York City’s largest off - Broadway venues. It was one of the city’s first Nickelodeons but later fell upon hard times. It reopened as a theater in 1991 after being purchased by Ben Sprecher, who renovated and refurbished the historic venue. Currently playing at the Variety Arts Theatre is The Joys of Sex.
