Events at New York City Center
The New York City Center was built in 1923 as a meeting hall for the Ancient Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. Apparently that didn’t work out too well, and the building was renovated to be a 2,750-seat performing arts center. It nearly faced the wrecking ball in the 1970s when some tenants moved to the Lincoln Center, but City Center has hung in there and is now a success with a variety of performances ranging from dance to theater to music.
