Lincoln Center got started back in 1955, when the New York City Mayor’s “Slum Clearance Committee” decided to revitalize the area with a performing arts center. Four years later, President Dwight D. Eisenhower broke ground on the facility and over the next 15 years the complex continued to expand with more venues and eventually became the largest performing arts center in the world. The 16.3-acre facility is now home to 12 arts organizations representing dance, theater, opera, film and more.
