Last October, a baseball game between the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Indians was suspended in the 11th inning, but not because of bad weather. The game was called because the University of Minnesota and Penn State needed the field for a Big Ten football game later that night. Such is life inside the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. There isn’t a busier sports venue in the country.
The Metrodome is always bustling, especially in the early fall when all three of its major tenants - the Twins, Golden Gophers and Minnesota Vikings - are in action. Given the sheer volume of activity, Metrodome tickets are always rare commodities.
The Metrodome has been one of the premier football facilities in the country since it opened in 1982. It is the largest stadium of its kind, a multi-use facility with an air-supported dome that requires 250,000 cubic feet of pressure per minute to remain inflated. It’s appeal is such that the NFL disregarded its favoritism toward Southern cities and held Super Bowl XXVI in Minneapolis in 1992, with the Redskins defeating the Bills, 37-24. The Metrodome has also played host to two World Series, two NCAA Final Fours and Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game, as well as concerts by the Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Paul McCartney and Metallica. Tickets for such events are often hard to come by, but savvy fans can always find concert tickets, Twins tickets, Vikings tickets and Minnesota Golden Gophers tickets at Gotickets.
Vikings tickets could be even harder to find if the team does as well as expected this fall. With All-Pro quarterback Daunte Culpepper returning and the defense fortified by a number of key free-agent acquisitions, the team has the look of a Super Bowl contender in 2005. The schedule boasts a number of exciting games including visits from Green Bay (Oct. 23), St. Louis (Dec. 11) and Pittsburgh (Dec. 18). Get your Vikings tickets at Gotickets.
The stadium will also rock for Gophers games this fall. Coach Glen Mason has turned Minnesota into a regular postseason contender. In 2005, the team will welcome Purdue (Sept. 24), Wisconsin (Oct. 15), Ohio State (Oct. 29) and Michigan State (Nov. 12). With the Gophers surging, Metrodome tickets figure to be in greater demand than ever before.
Like any good indoor stadium, the Metrodome tends to get loud. During a 1987 World Series game between the Twins and St. Louis Cardinals, the noise was so deafening that ABC’s decibel meter broke. So consider yourself warned. It might be wise to invest in a pair of ear plugs if you plan to attend any Vikings games this fall. You won’t find those at Gotickets, but you will find some of the best seats in the house.
