The Pontiac Silverdome provided sports fans with more than their share of action. The Detroit Lions made the Silverdome their home from 1975-2001 and who could stay in their Silverdome seats when Barry Sanders broke loose on the field? But besides the NFL and the Detroit Lions, the Pontiac Silverdome saw NBA action when the Pistons settled there for 10 years before moving to the Palace of Auburn Hills. Then there were the Detroit Shockers filling the seats, the USFL’s Michigan Panthers, the Motor City Bowl, and the Cherry Bowl. A very active place was the Silverdome.
Some significant concert action was witnessed from seating in the Pontiac Silverdome too. The Who established a record crowd of 75,962, only to see Led Zeppelin top them in 1977 with 76,229. But the all time biggest crowd to fill the seats of the Pontiac Silverdome came in 1987 when Wrestlemania III drew 98,173 wrestling fans.
Since its heyday the Silverdome still see action on a smaller scale. It’s a great place for Monster Jam, and it’s used occasionally for football games and basketball, and it may still be an option for another pro sports team in the future. When that happens, depend on GoTickets to get you good seating in the Pontiac Silverdome.
