Detroit Opera House
Located in the heart of the teeming Motor City, built around Detroit’s Grand Circus Park, sits the 2,700 seating behemoth of an opera house, the Detroit Opera House. Famous for its acoustical perfection, Detroit Opera House is home to all Michigan Theater Productions. Louis Armstrong brought his trumpet skills in the Detroit Opera House with rave reviews from the Michigan audience. Among other famous non opera performances that occurred in the seats of the Detroit Opera House were regular appearances made by Duke Ellington. Ellington and his orchestra normally sold every seat available in the opera house.
Functioning since 1922, the Detroit Opera House is a historical landmark to tourists and locals alike. Following two restorations since the birth of the opera house, style and comfort go hand in hand beyond the front doors. Located behind the Bleu Room Experience and across the street from I O. Enjoy fine dining before or after you relax in your seat and take pleasure in the performance at the Detroit Opera House. When you are strolling on Woodward Avenue and notice the David Broderick Tower and the David Whitney building, two of Detroit’s most historical skyscrapers, you know you are within walking distance to the greatest opera seating venue in the northeast.
