Events at Palace of the Fine Arts
The 1,000-seat Palace of Fine Arts Theater was originally designed for the 1915 Panama Pacific Exposition, which in part was to showcase San Francisco after it recovered from a massive earthquake in 1906. However, the famous rotunda at the Palace of Fine Arts was not designed to last much longer than the exposition, so money was raised to construct a more sturdy structure and it has become one of San Francisco’s top venues. Among the variety of events held at the Palace of Fine Arts were a 1976 Presidential Debate, the Late Show with David Letterman, the comedy of Jay Leno, and concerts by Celine Dion, Journey and the San Francisco Symphony.
