THE ADDAMS FAMILY

What was once a popular late 1950s cartoon strip by Charles Addams in “The New Yorker” magazine became a 1964 television series starring John Astin, Carolyn Jones, Jackie Coogan and Ted Cassidy until it was canceled in 1966. This new musical is based on the cartoons of Addams, not the subsequent films or television series.

Performances will begin this year, coincidentally on Friday, November 13th, at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theatre, and continue for a short two month run in the Windy City through Jan. 10, 2010. The Broadway show is scheduled to debut in New York on March 4, 2010, and in previews with the official opening on April 8. The cast has been announced, and will feature Nathan Lane as Gomez, Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia, Terrence Mann as Mal Beineke, Carolee Carmello as Alice Beineke, Kevin Chamberlin as Uncle Fester, Jackie Hoffman as Grandmama and Zachary James as Lurch. Broadway veterans Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice are writing the book with Andrew Lippa writing the score. Julian Crouch and Phelim McDermott are directing and designing the production, with choreography by Sergio Trujillo.
