The original Broadway production opened June 3, 1975 at the 46th Street Theatre and ran for a total of 936 performances. Bob Fosse choreographed the original production, and his style is strongly identified with the show. Chicago’s 1996 Broadway revival holds the record for the longest-running musical revival on Broadway and is Broadway’s seventh longest-running show in history. As of November 15, 2008, it has played for more than 5,000 performances. The story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice, and the concept of the “celebrity criminal.” The musical is based on a 1926 play of the same name by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins about actual criminals and crimes she had reported on. An Academy Award-winning film version of the musical was released in 2002.

The Broadway cast for the 2009 revival of Chicago - The Musical is produced by Fran and Barry Weissler, directed by Walter Bobbie, and is headlined by a spectacular performance from Samantha Harris (Roxie Hart), Amra Faye Wright (Velma Kelly), Brent Barrett (Billy Flynn), and Tom Riis Farrell (Amos).
