2013 was a very forgettable year for the Tampa Bay Lightning. The team finished a very disappointing 4th in the Southeast and 14th overall in the Eastern Conference. Despite a talented roster that features the likes of Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis, and Steven Stamkos, Tampa Bay just wasn’t able to get it done. At the midway point of the lockout shortened 2013 NHL season, Bolts General Manager, and former Red Wings star Steve Yzerman fired then head coach Guy Boucher. Boucher was replaced with Jon Cooper, giving him his first ever NHL head coaching job.

Following a 7-16-1 start under Guy Boucher, the Lighting were able to turn things around a bit finishing their final 24 games at 11-10-3. This should give Lighting fans a very positive outlook heading into next season. Luckily for Tampa Bay, they are in a very winnable division, the Southeast so they could very well be contending as soon as next year. Goaltender had been a position of uncertainty for the Bolts for quite some time but they believe that they addressed it by acquiring Ben Bishop from Ottawa at this year’s trade deadline.
