The Dallas Stars failed to reach the playoffs for the first time since the ‘07-‘08 season. They had been a model of consistency over the last decade and a fixture in the NHL Playoffs. In the lockout shortened season, the Stars finished .500, going 22-22-4 in 48 games, seven points out of the the final spot. It was certainly a disappointing season in the Lone Star state but one that the players and coaching staff can look back at and learn from.

The Stars said farewell to a familiar face in Brenden Morrow at this year’s trading deadline. Morrow had been on the Stars since his rookie year which was 1999. The Stars now shift their attention to rebuilding efforts. They mad a series of trades throughout the 2013 season that helped them to acquire both young players and future draft selections. In addition to Morrow, the Stars also dealt Michael Ryder, Jaromir Jagr, Derek Roy, and Tomas Vincour. The Stars are now in prime position to become a major threat again in the Western Conference.
