Despite finishing 56-26 and making a serious run in the playoffs the Grizzlies elected to part ways with head coach Lionel Hollins. Hollins had been with Memphis since the beginning of the 2009 season. The Grizz were eliminated from the Western Conference Finals by the San Antonio Spurs in just four games, a very disappointing end to an otherwise great season.

Led by the likes of Zach Randolph, Marc Casol, and Mike Conley, the Grizzlies were one of the most difficult teams to face on the road in the entire NBA. They finished the regular season 32-9 at FedEx Forum. In the Western Conference Finals the Grizzlies ran into their division rivals, the San Antonio Spurs. The more experienced Spurs squad dominated the series and made short work of Memphis. The experience the Grizzlies gained last season, however, was immeasurable.
