Last season was a bit of a difficult one for the Houston Cougars, they finished a disappointing 5-7 overall and 4-4 in the final season in the Big East. This year they will make the move to the all new American Athletic Conference. Houston is led by head coach Tony Levine, who played his college ball at Minnesota. He worked his way up the ranks coaching for other schools including Auburn, Louisville, and the Carolina Panthers. Now Levine is looking to turn the Houston Cougars into a perennial power in the AAC.
Despite a 5-7 record, there were some highlights on the schedule for Houston. They defeated talented squads including Rice, North Texas, UAB, UTEP, and Tulane. They also lost several very close games including a 44-41 defeat at the hands of Marshall. The ‘12 season also marked the last time that Houston would play at historic Roberston Stadium. Located on campus, “The Rob” had been the home of Houston Cougars for the better part of the last five decades. This year, the Cougars will play at the home of the Houston Texans, Reliant Stadium.
This year’s Houston Football schedule features a mix of familiar foes and new opponents. Houston opens at home against the SMU Mustangs before traveling to Philadelphia to take on newcomer, Temple at Lincoln Financial Field. The Cougars will also host BYU, South Florida, Cincinnati, and SMU at home. Arguably their most anticipated road game of the year comes on November 16th when they will take on the Louisville Cardinals and Heisman hopeful Teddy Bridgewater.
