Remarkably, at least compared to the rate at which some other bowl games change their names, this one has remained as the San Diego Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl from the very start. The game has one of the more confusing conference tie-in arrangements as it can invite a team from the Western Athletic Conference or Mountain West Conference, plus there are automatic bids from Navy, Army and BYU depending on the year and whether those teams are bowl-eligible.
