That year’s game wasn’t particularly noteworthy, as TCU beat East Carolina by a score of 28-14, but just two years later the game made headlines when Marshall beat East Carolina 64-61 in a double-overtime classic. That game formerly held the all-time college bowl game record for most points and biggest comeback (Marshall was down 38-8 at one point). The GMAC Bowl also featured the biggest blowout in college bowl game history, when Tulsa crushed Bowling Green 63-7 in ’08.
