Like nearly every other college bowl game, the Gator Bowl has been through a series of name and sponsorship changes and this year will be known as the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl. While that doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, the Gator Bowl is still near the top of the list of top bowl games and it traditionally features a high scoring game and a close finish. Last year’s Gator Bowl was certainly high scoring, as the Mississippi State Bulldogs put up 52 points on the Michigan Wolverines, but it wasn’t exactly close with a final score of 52-14. However that was more of an exception than a rule, as recent games have featured final scores like 31-28, 38-35 and 26-21 with teams such as Nebraska, Clemson, West Virginia and Florida State all participating in the Gator Bowl. If you want to see the game this year, go ahead and buy your Gator Bowl tickets early.

When the Gator Bowl started back in ’46 it was played at the stadium of the same name, and when the Gator Bowl stadium was torn down in ’94 the game was moved to EverBank Field in Jacksonville, which actually sits very close to where the old Gator Bowl once stood. Over the years the Gator Bowl has compiled an impressive list of MVP winners, including Philip Rivers, Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb. Who will be the next big star to shine in the Gator Bowl?
