Armed Forces Bowl
Originally known as the Fort Worth Bowl, the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl is normally played at Amon Carter Stadium on the campus of TCU, but since that stadium is being renovated the 2011 Armed Forces Bowl is set for Gerald Ford Stadium on the campus of SMU in Dallas. The game will return to TCU’s stadium next year. As you might expect from its name, the Armed Forces Bowl typically features a military service academy team against either the Mountain West Conference or Conference USA. Last year’s game was a nail-biter with Army defeating SMU by a score of 16-14. That game, which was also played at Gerald Form Stadium, attracted a stadium record crowd of 36,742 and the year before, when it was back at Amon Carter Stadium, more than 40,000 Armed Forces Bowl game tickets were sold to watch Houston take on Air Force. If you want to be there to see what happens this year, order your Armed Forces Bowl tickets today.
This will be the second and last Armed Forces Bowl to be played at Gerald Ford Stadium, so this is your chance to check out one of the most underrated stadiums in college football. Constructed at a cost of nearly $350 million about a decade ago, the stadium has helped in the resurgence of the once powerful SMU Mustangs football program. The fans have responded with several sellouts in recent years, and although the official capacity is only 32,000, that has been exceeded several times, including the 36,741 from last year’s Armed Forces Bowl. And make sure you check out Doak Walker Plaza and the life-size statue of the famous Heisman Trophy winner from SMU. There’s a good chance the stadium attendance record could be broken again this year, so make sure you get your Armed Forces Bowl game tickets now before it’s too late.
