Duke football fans haven’t had much to cheer about in the last, well, let’s say a really long time. Season after season have been a huge disappoint for everyone involved, and the powers higher up decided they were ready for a change. In December of 2007 that change came in the form of head coach David Cutcliffe. Formerly from Ole Miss, Cutcliffe has been associated with 22 bowls and took Ole Miss four bowl games in six seasons. This success rate was exactly what Duke was looking for in their new head coach. Cutcliffe can also boast mentoring two of the NFL’s most successful quarterbacks and Super bowl MVPs Eli and Peyton Manning of the New York Giants and the Indianapolis Colts respectively.
The Duke Blue Devils hit a speed bump in their first rebuilding season under new head coach Cutcliffe and wound up with a disappointing, but not surprising record of 4-8. You can watch the team as it grows and looks more and more like a major college football team in almost every aspect of the sport. The team has a new sense of purpose with a good offensive strategy, a strong defensive potential, and a great kicking game. Head coach Cutcliffe has focused his players addressing many of the previous year’s deficiencies.
With exciting wins over Navy, Virgina, Vanderbilt and a dominate game over James Madison, the Duke Blue Devil football team could be headed for greatness. Watch as this program grows under Cutcliffe and get your early seat to watch in 2009 as Duke turns a loosing history into a winning future at Wallace Wade Stadium.
