Events at Great Western Forum
The Great Western Forum, or the Fabulous Forum as it was originally called, was the longtime home of the Los Angeles Lakers of the NBA and the Staples Center, but the Forum, which was modeled after the Roman Forum, still stands and hosts special events and concerts. Opened in 1968 at a cost of $16 million, the Forum saw some of the greatest basketball players ever like Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson and many other Lakers stars. The Lakers won six NBA titles during their time in the Forum and were the dominant team of the 1980s. Wayne Gretzky, “The Great One,” also played at the Forum as a member of the Kings.
