Ralph Wilson Stadium opened in 1973 as Rich Stadium, and to the surprise of even some local fans it was not named after someone with the last name of Rich but rather the Rich food company, which was one of the first to buy the corporate naming rights for an NFL stadium. When that agreement expired, the stadium was renamed after the Bills’ founder.
