Gerald Ford Stadium is the home of the Southern Methodist University Mustangs. With a capacity of 32,000 it is certainly not one of the largest stadiums in Texas but is fairly new, having opened in 2000. Most people think that Gerald Ford Stadium is named for the former President, but that is not the case. The stadium is actually named for Gerald J. Ford a billionaire banker who helped fund the construction process.

There are plans to expand Ford Stadium giving it a maximum capacity of over 45,000 down the road. While it still remains a question mark as to when that process will begin, SMU fans are hopeful that with the team’s recent commitment to the Big East conference it will come soon.
