Since its initial unveiling in 1991, the Convocation Center has become the most thrilling collegiate owned multi-purpose facility in Cleveland. Construction costs for the Convocation Center totaled an eye-popping $55,000,000. When you obtain Convocation Center tickets to an event it is immediately evident that the theater style padded seating is one of many confirmations of this amazing state-of-the-art arena.
On January 21, 2005 the Convocation Center was renamed the “Wolstein Center” in honor of Bert L. and Iris S. Wolstein. Bert L. Wolstein was a large figure in the development of industrial real estate, a lawyer and one time sports team owner. It was Bert who first brought the Cleveland Force, indoor soccer team to Cleveland and the Convocation Center in 1979. Iris S. Wolstein gave an endowment gift of 6.25 million dollars to Cleveland State University on behalf of her husband who passed away in May of 2004.
