The 1970s was a great decade for American rock bands with the formation of legends like Aerosmith and AC/DC, but many would argue that the decade belonged to the Eagles, and the fact that one of their greatest hits album alone sold nearly 30 million copies proves that point. The remarkable thing about the Eagles is that they were broken up for nearly 15 years until reuniting in ’94 with the appropriately titled album “Hell Freezes Over.” It seems like they never missed a beat, and they are still going strong with another North American tour. Comprised of Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy Schmidt, the Eagles have won six Grammy Awards – incredibly four of them were in the 1970s and then two more in 2000s. They have churned out six Number 1 hits during their career, including “Hotel California” and “Best of My Love.” The Eagles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in ’98 and the Recording Industry of America honored them with an award for the Best Selling Album for the Century (yes, as in the best selling album of the past 100 years). That award was for “Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975),” so they didn’t even need their complete greatest hits collection to top the all time chart. Members of the band have had their share of disagreements over the years, including one of their final concerts before breaking up in ’80 when Don Henley and now-former member Don Felder keep the audience informed about their plans to beat each up after the show. But tempers seem to have settled down after the band took a hiatus, and they are back to doing what they do best – creating incredible music.
