One of the best arena bands of the 70’s, Styx earned stardom with their hit single, “Lady”, making their fortune with the power ballad. Constantly selling concert tickets and albums in record numbers, no other group was able to perform the guitar-heavy ballads better than Styx. While the band’s history has been embittered with turmoil, and sadly founding member John Panozzo’s death, the group, much like their ballads, have powered on. Although, former front-man, Dennis DeYoung is no longer touring with the band, new comer Lawrence Gowan fills in with aplomb, and Tommy Shaw continues to be the glue that holds the band together.
Styx has released a new album, Big Bang Theory, in support of the tour. The album is a cover album of other songs, including impressive renditions of “I Am the Walrus” and “I Can See for Miles”. Big Bang Theory also includes a live “nearly” acoustic recording of the Styx classic “Blue Collar Man”.
