Celine Dion fans are dancing in their seats again after waiting almost eight years to see the super-diva in concert again. Celine had a very successful ‘Taking Chances’ world tour, which started in February of ‘08. This grueling tour traveled the world, starting in South Africa, over a period of one year. Celine is one of the most dedicated artists, who once admitted that she never spoke a word on concert days to preserve her voice.

Her rise to one of the world’s largest selling super-stars began as the daughter of a modest French Canadian family. Born in a small town near Montreal, Quebec, Celine was the youngest of 14 children. Her parents, both musicians, owned and operated a small club in which the whole family would perform. Celine started performing with the family at the age of five and stole the show early. Realizing that Celine’s talent for vocals and songwriting were exceptional, her parents presented her to René Angélil, a personal manager. He was so taken with Celine’s talent that he mortgaged his own home to finance her first album, which was in French.

Winning awards straight out of the starting gate, she was the first French Canadian to receive a Gold Record in France. She quickly became Quebec’s favorite songstress, and had world exposure after winning a TV competition in Ireland, which was shown throughout Europe, the USSR, the Middle-East, Japan & Australia.

In ‘90 Celine released her first English album titled ‘Unison,’ but her big break came when she recorded the title track to Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ which went to number one on the charts, won an Academy Award and a Grammy. Her second English album was simply ‘Celine Dion’ and garnered four hit singles in the U.S. and went six times platinum in Canada, setting Celine on a ridiculous streak of Juno wins.

Celine married her manager René in December of ‘94, in what could be dubbed as Canada’s royal wedding. She was soaring high at the top of the British charts being one of the few females to maintain a number one status for five weeks and became the fourth million selling album by a female in UK history.

By ‘96 she had another best seller with ‘Falling into You,’ which topped the charts in 11 different countries. She sold 25 million copies world wide and earned two Grammy Awards—Album of the Year and Best Pop Album. She followed that up with ‘Let’s Talk about Love,’ which sold 27 million copies world wide and featured guests like Barbara Streisand, the Bee Gees, and Yo Yo Ma. Its most famous contributor was James Horner, who wrote “My Heart Will Go On,” which also won an Oscar. The song was also on the ‘Titanic’ soundtrack and helped boost its sells to 27 million; the largest soundtrack seller ever.

In ‘98 she released a Christmas album before taking a break to have her son with her husband René. In ‘02 ‘A Brand New Day’ debuted at number one in 17 countries. It was March of ‘03, that saw her do something no other artist had tried before. She signed a three-year contract with Caesar’s Palace to perform five nights a week at the custom theater called The Colosseum. She released ‘One Heart’ that same year. Her sells were so successful at Caesar’s that they signed her for a two-year extension. Setting the trend, she has been followed by Bette Midler and Cher, who are currently gracing the stage of The Colosseum. Elton John will join this line-up in October.
