Spanish explorers first spotted the area that today we know as Tampa, Florida, back in the 1500s, and the city has never stopped growing since that time. A number of Native Americans have called the area known as Tampa home, and it was founded as an American city in the 1800s when Fort Brooke was established in the area. Today, with its popular outdoor recreational opportunities, waterfront living and temperate climate, the Tampa Bay area, which also encompasses the neighboring cities of St. Petersburg and Clearwater, is home to more than four million residents and continues to gain top marks as one of the most livable cities in the United States for all age levels. Because of its many amenities, Tampa remains a top convention and conference town and will even host the Republication National Convention in ‘12.
